snowcall

Pick the day. Pick the mountain.

Snow and sky, one call.

Snowcall started as a fun, tiny demo: one page, sample data and four mountains outside Boise, built to answer one question for a few friends. Which hill is worth the drive this morning?

It kept growing. The demo became an app that reads federal snow stations and the National Weather Service before sunrise, every day of the season. Then it learned twenty winters of history, so it could help plan a trip as well as a morning. Then a second region, and a third. Today it gives one honest call for 22 mountains in Southern Idaho, Northern Utah and Lake Tahoe, every morning.

What hasn't changed: every mountain is measured the same way, by the same stations, not by resort snow reports. One call, the proof under it, and no sign-up, ever required.

The history behind every call

22mountains in 3 regions
20winters, 2006-07 to 2025-26
93,830mountain-days checked, Nov 1 to Jun 1
750,640hours of sky read, 9 AM to 4 PM
13,772fresh-snow days while the lifts ran
1,834bluebird days while the lifts ran

That's 61,588 lift days, and only about one in 34 was bluebird. That's why the word means something here. How each call is decided.

Made in Boise, for skiers anywhere

Snowcall is independent: it isn't owned by a resort, and resorts can't sponsor it. It's free, paid for by small, labelled ad spots below the calls. What we count, and what we never do.

Snow data: USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service, SNOTEL. Forecasts: National Weather Service. Sky history: contains modified Copernicus Climate Change Service information 2026. Neither the European Commission nor ECMWF is responsible for any use that may be made of the Copernicus information or data it contains. Counted from every day Nov 1 to Jun 1 of each winter; lift days come from resort announcements and news, and a few early winters use a mountain's average where no date could be found.
